POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER, FACULTY OF THEOLOGY
 

The Faculty of Theology at the University of Helsinki invites applications to the Centre of Excellence “Changes in Sacred Texts and Traditions” (CSTT) for

1-2 POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITIONS

for a 1-2 year period, to begin on 1.1.2015 or upon agreement.


The largest of the three theological faculties in Finland, and among the largest in Europe in terms of student intake. The Faculty of Theology is a non-denominational academic community.

The mission of the Faculty is to conduct research in religion and its various manifestations, provide teaching based on this research and participate in societal discourse on both a national and international scale. The Faculty has received high marks in international research evaluations and actively cooperates with similar leading research institutes. The Faculty hosts two Centres of Excellence in Research (2014-2019) funded by the Academy of Finland.

The appointees’ research projects will be carried out as part of the multidisciplinary and international Centre of Excellence “Changes in Sacred Texts and Traditions”, funded by the Academy of Finland and the University of Helsinki. The Centre of Excellence is divided into four research teams, and each researcher will be part of one team. The duties of the post-doctoral researchers include research according to their research plans, which should relate to the objectives of the Centre of Excellence. In addition, the postdocs will contribute to teaching, CoE’s activities, both nationally and internationally and other academic activities.

Appointees to the position of post-doctoral researcher shall hold a doctoral degree (at the beginning of their employment contract at the latest), be able to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position. To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointees should have a degree in biblical studies or a related field. The appointees must have good English skills.

The University of Helsinki offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience. At the beginning of the employment period a postdoc researcher’s salary will range from €3100 to €3400 gross per month, for full-time work in Finland. The appointment starts with a probationary period of four months.

  • A curriculum vitae, including a list of scientific publications
  • A copy of the Degree Certificate(s)
  • A research plan (max. 6 pages), in which the applicant describes his or her research project and how it relates to the theme and objectives of the CSTT and its specific team
  • An abstract of the research plan (max. one page)
  • In addition, applicants are requested to name 1-2 referees.
